Fall 2020 Updates

HIHA Family,

2020 has been a year full of challenges and we appreciate all your

support! As you know we had to cancel the Spring Season, but the

Summer Sessions were a success and provided something for the kids

to get out and play. Our goal is to provide a fun, safe, and competitive

environment for the young people in this community to play inline

hockey. That said, we have some exciting news for the Fall Season!

We have received support from the Hendersonville Parks Department

to run a 10-game season, complete with a tournament! This message

may be a bit long, but we want to key in on a question that may be top

of mind for you and your family, "How will we keep everyone safe?"

Before coming to the rinks we ask you to run through the following five questions:

  1. Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days?

  2. Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat?

  3. Have you had a fever in the last 48 hours?

  4. Have you had new loss of taste or smell?

  5. Have you had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours?

If you answer yes to any one of these questions, we ask you to stay home. The primary method we can identify to keep everyone safe is for each and every one of us to take personal responsibility for the success of the season. We will be accommodating for this by adding a few extra players to each roster, so don't feel like you are letting the team down by not showing up for practices or games if you indeed answer yes to one of the questions above. You will see signs posted around the rinks with these same questions as a reminder. We are relying on you to follow these guidelines for the health and safety of the kids, parents, and grandparents in our community. That said, you may be approached by a Board Member and asked these questions.

When at the rinks we will also be asking you to adhere to:

  • Social Distancing - 6ft distance between spectators and 15ft distance if using a projected voice. We love the energy the crowd brings to the games, but for this season, we need to be mindful of this adaptation.

  • Masks Encouraged - While at the rinks, we ask that you wear a mask. This is primarily to comply with local guidelines and to respect those who may want to watch their children or grandchildren play and feel more comfortable if masks are worn by the group. This is a small thing that we can all do to help.

  • Bring water for your child - In past years a coach could bring water for everyone, this will not be the case this year. The kids get hot and need water, so we ask that you bring enough cold water to every game and practice for your child.

As with many things in 2020, there are adaptations and rule changes that aren't necessarily fun to talk about, comply with, or enforce. We have a great group of families at HIHA, let's get through this thing together and look forward to better days!

Moving on to the exciting part!

There are quite a few things to pay attention to here given the fact that many of you were signed up for Spring Season and, therefore, were automatically signed up for the Fall Season.

  • Early Bird Registration is open now through August 26th and the cost is $130.00.

  • You can see if you are already registered by clicking here, selecting your age group, and clicking "Rosters" off to the left.

  • If you do not want to play the Fall Season and you are already registered from the Spring Season, you have until August 26th to request a refund via Sportability. Click this link and fill out the form for a "Player Refund." Your refund will be processed by the league.

  • Regular Registration will be open from August 27th to August 29th, after which, no more players will be added to the rosters. The registration fee will increase $15.00 to the standard $145.00 during this three day period.

  • Evaluations - Seth Hinton, Head HIHA Referee and Board Members/Coaches will host evaluations on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, August 30th, 31st, and September 1st. The current schedule can be found below.  Please make every effort to be at this event, Seth works hard to make this event fun for the kids and ensures that the coaches can organize the teams for competitive play. In the event of rain, we have a contingency plan for Monday and/or Tuesday. We will communicate about any schedule changes by Sunday morning at 1:00pm.

  • Practices will start Wednesday September 9th and the first games will be Saturday September 12th.

  • RainedOut Notifications - if you haven't signed up already, visit this link to be notified of evaluations/game cancellations/postponement

  • Lightning - The Hendersonville Parks Department has installed lightning detectors around the city. If the lightning detector goes off, we are required to vacate the field of play until an all clear signal is given.  Again, player safety is the focus.

  • League News - The HIHA has a facebook page and a website.  You will find a detailed calendar of events on the home page and a link to the facebook page there as well.

  • Forms - Each player must fill out a Concussion Form, Liability Waiver, and Cardiac Arrest Form.  These can be found under League Information on the website under the forms link.

  • AAU Membership - Each player must present a valid AAU membership for the current season.

  • Equipment - Under League Information on the website, click the Required Equipment Link.  Please read over this carefully and make sure your player has all required equipment for practices and game day. Players missing required equipment will not be allowed to play in order to ensure the safety of all.

    Honor the Game:
The Hendersonville Parks Department and the HIHA participate in the Honor the Game Sportsmanship Program, the core principles are:
Respect: Always respecting for the game’s rules, players, coaches, officials, parents and fans
Heart: Competing with heart and hustle
Learn: Building skill and confidence through both successes and failures
Play: Play for the enjoyment of the game

    Termites:
If this is your first season with the HIHA, welcome!  Our termites division is always exciting for the players and parents.  Please refer to the required equipment above and other general information.
